Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Roxanne Bottos Scully announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer. Roxanne died on May 22, 2019 at the age of 66. She left this earth peacefully, in the comfort and privacy of her Skilled Nursing home, located in Sarasota, FL.

Born on August 31, 1952 in Peekskill, NY, Roxanne was the oldest of three children, sister to John (Jack) and Nancy (Beth) Bottos. She spent her childhood in Peekskill, NY, studying many different musical instruments. Clarinet, piano, guitar, and vocals were among her favorites. After graduating from Peekskill High School, Roxanne enrolled in Dental School, where she learned the skills to become a full time Dental Assistant. She soon after put her career on hold to marry her high school sweetheart, Kevin J. Scully, and to become a mother to two sons, Kevin J., and Ryan P. Scully. Once the boys became self sufficient, Roxanne rejoined the workforce as a Medical Claims Examiner at Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where she retired after 10 plus years of employment.

Roxanne was preceded in death by her parents, John R., and Estelle (DeGolyer) Bottos. Unfortunately, her husband of 46 years, Kevin, passed away just 2 months after Roxanne, on July 21st, 2019. She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Evanne) Scully Jr. of Sarasota, FL and Ryan (Jackie) Scully of Medford, NJ; sister Nancy (Michael) Potthast of Cortlandt Manor, and two grandchildren, Connor (9), and Quinn (8) Scully.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00AM on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Assumption Church followed by an Interment at Assumption Cemetery. While extremely sad, the family is encouraged by the belief that Roxanne and Kevin are reunited once again in God’s Kingdom

Dear Kevin, Kevin, Ryan and all the Bottos Scully family. Roxanne was always a generous and loving presence in my life. She was very devoted to her family as you well know. She had a lovely, light sense of humor and a huge heart. She will be greatly missed by us all. I still have all her recipes and always think of her when I cook with them,

Dear family of Roxanne,
It came my way today that Roxanne had passed. Although we had not been close at all in many, many years, we were very close at a very important time of our lives -- high school. We lived a few blocks from each other and walked back and forth to school each day. I was there when she slipped on ice and helped her back home to nurse 'water on the knee'. I was there when she played clarinet like an angel. And I helped Roxanne and Christine Lavin when they sang together and played guitar.
I don't think the basic qualities of a person change that much over time. And I can tell you that Roxanne was so well-balanced, so positive and so friendly throughout those years, when we were teenagers. Her soul was full of music and joy and I hope you can take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on. I have not forgotten her after more than 50 years. She was a special person; may her memory be a blessing for you all.
