Obituary for Richard J Willman

Richard J. Willman (Dick) passed away peacefully Sunday, October 16, 2022 with his loving daughters and adored grandchildren by his side. He was 92 years “young”.

Dick was born and raised in New Rochelle, NY to Walter and Brigid Willman on September 2, 1930. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School. He worked fulltime in Banking putting himself through college and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Juanita (Morgan) Willman in 1989 and his sister, Marguerite Cox (Jim) in 2017.

Dick and Juanita met on a blind date. They fell in love and were married on January 22, 1955 in Eastchester, NY. They moved to Cortlandt Manor in 1960 where they raised their two daughters. In 1987, Dick’s career took him and his wife to Bloomfield Hills, MI. He worked for Renault USA Inc. in the automobile industry as Vice-President of Administration & Finance. After his wife’s passing, Dick stayed in Michigan for many years where he made some wonderful friendships. He had just returned to his Cortlandt Manor, NY home in November 2021 to live with his daughter, Carol.

Dick was an avid golfer. He played golf his entire life through the Summer of 2021. He had 5 holes-in-one throughout his lifetime and although very modest, was also very proud. His first one was in 1964 at the Peekskill Elks Tournament, Briar Hall Country Club (190 yards 4 iron); his second was in 1982 at Hominy Hill Golf Course in NJ (175 yards 4 iron); his third was in 2000 at High Point Golf Course in Naples, FL (121 yards 8 iron); the fourth was also at High Point Golf Course in Naples, FL (113 yards wedge); and lastly, his fifth was in 2005 at Bald Mountain Golf Course in Michigan (193 yards driver). He was an impressive golfer.

Dick was also a passionate bowler and played in leagues in both New York and Michigan. He was a gentleman with a kind heart and a lot of class. He was a family man. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and was blessed to have 4 beautiful great-grandchildren. He was a sweet, wonderful man. Those that knew him, loved him. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his two loving daughters, Sharon Brown (George) of Hilliard, Ohio and Carol (Willman) Wilson of Cortlandt Manor, NY; his 3 grandchildren whom he adored, Lindsey Malone (Mike) of Thornwood, NY; William Brown (Bojana) of Pickerington, Ohio and Hillary Brown of Hilliard, Ohio, He also was the proud, loving great-grandfather of Madison and Brianna Malone, and Mila and Luka Brown.
Friends may call at the Curry & Giordano Funeral Home, Peekskill, NY on Friday, October 21 from 5-8pm. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Columbanus Church, Cortlandt Manor, NY at 10:00am on Saturday, October 22.
