Obituary

Michael Gerard Gantt, the oldest son of Martha (Poole) and John Henry Gantt, passed away suddenly on May 16, 2020 at Hudson Valley-New York Presbyterian Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, NY. He was loved very much by all who knew him.
Michael was born at the same hospital on March 12, 1965. Growing up, Mike attended Peekskill schools. At Peekskill High School, he was an honors student and graduated with a Regents Diploma in 1983. After graduation, Michael worked at Readers Digest and Mearl Corporation for a number of years before moving to Hauppauge, NY in 1988.
On Long Island, Michael worked for United Guardian as a Chemical Manager for several years before switching careers. He obtained his Real Estate Broker license, and opened his own business. His company, “Magnificent Homes”, built, sold, and remodeled homes. When real estate sales were slow Mike sold solar panels, and also sold products on Amazon.
Michael and Kizzy Ann Bonnito are parents to his three precious children, Sydney, Savannah, and Michael John. Mike loved to travel, and with Kizzy Ann he went to Cancun, Aruba, and Jamaica. He also traveled to Las Vegas, Atlanta, Florida, Texas, and the Carolinas.
Those who knew Michael considered him to be a photographer, a master chess player, and a master griller! He loved to play football and basketball with his friends. In his younger days, Michael was a DJ, but “retired” when his younger brother, “DJ Reese”, came on the scene! For most of his life, Mike was known as “Mr. Bill”, because the frames on his glasses made people think he looked like Bill Cosby.
Family was very important to Michael, and he was especially fond of his only uncle, John H. Poole. Uncle Johnny would always buy Mike his favorite ice cream when he babysat him when he was young. When he was older, Michael loved to give guidance to those around him. His younger cousin, Kimo remembers something Michael told him last July: “If you want something in life you must be encouraged to get it”. Kimo said that this advice was touching and very helpful.
Michael leaves his mother, Martha Gantt, to mourn his memory, as well as his children, who he loved very much - Sydney, Savannah and Michael John. Also surviving are his uncle, John H. Poole, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mike will also be missed by his godmother, Marie Wortham, who was like a second mother to him.
Michael is predeceased by his father, John H. Gantt, and his brother, Maurice A. Gantt. They are together in heaven!
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Curry Giordano Funeral Home, Peekskill, NY.

I have such fond memories of Mike "Mr. Bill" Gantt. He was just a stand up guy.

I am so sorry to hear that Michael has transitioned. We went to school together since elementary school. We both watched each other evolve over the years. He was a great person always. RIP Mr. Bill🙏
