Obituary

John “Ty” DeVido was born on September 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Joseph and Beatrice (Schoenfeld) DeVido. He passed away on January 10, 2020 in Naples, Florida. A 1953 graduate of Peekskill High School, Ty enlisted in The Navy and served in the Korean War. He went on to become a carpenter with Local 163 and was also a member of the Washington Engine Firehouse in Peekskill, NY.

Ty never met a stranger and often ran into “Peekskill” people while traveling. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. It is a trait some of his children and grandchildren inherited.

He enjoyed many activities, including trips to see his grandchildren graduate from high school, college, and get married. He loved sports, especially the Giants, and played baseball when he was in the Navy. In addition, Ty liked to play cards and visit various casinos.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan V. DeVido of Naples, FL, and five children, Jodi (Michael) Esaili of Dallas, TX, Dean (Ronda) DeVido of Beacon, NY, Danny DeVido of Los Angeles, CA, Jacqueline (Stephen) Smith of Bridge City, TX, and Mindy DeVido of Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition, he leaves behind his siblings, David (Rosemarie) DeVido, Raymond (Debbie) DeVido, Phyllis DeFranza, Joanne (James) Morgan, and Carol (Clem) DePalma, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial will be on February 16, 2020 at Curry Giordano, Peekskill, NY from 1pm-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida, in Ty’s memory. https://avowcares.org/donate-to-avow/ or with the American Heart Association.
