Eric Carl Cappelli was born to Jane (Koehler) Cappelli and Roch Cappelli on October 23, 1963, and raised in the Bronx, New York. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his presence was larger than life. He always thought of ways in which he could help others, and often offered it before anyone had to ask. He had a huge heart and always extended a helping hand. His selfless nature and generosity defined him as a person, a friend, and a mentor to many.

Eric was loyal to his family and friends and a dedicated hard worker.
His career in the NYPD spanned nearly two decades and he retired as a Lieutenant. Eric’s colleagues referred to him as a great cop, and an even better man. He was an effortlessly talented polymath - an artist, mechanic, and contractor. He was known for his many projects throughout the years and each one came with its own story; but his favorite thing in the world was to make his daughters laugh. His courage and fortitude dealing with his current health crisis was admirable.

He leaves behind his wife Jeanine, daughters Rachel and Sophia, his mother Jane Cappelli and siblings Brett (Jo-Ann), Joy (Philip Spiegel), Jed (Ginger), and nephews Brendan Cappelli, Charles and Philip Spiegel, and niece Hope Spiegel. He was preceded in death by his father Roch Cappelli, his maternal and paternal grandparents and nephew Brett Anthony Cappelli.

I think I was 16 when the boy next door and I went on a date! He was a gentleman. And I will never forget going to Great Adventure with Eric driving his Cadillac. It was a hot summer day and us girls were in the back seat with the convertible top down which turned our long hair into a knotty mess, but who cared?!

My memories of my cousin Eric date back to the family house in Leeds where we spent so many summers. Trying to get rid of a beehive on the roof, he hit it with a tree branch and about a million bees flew out, attacking him. He jumped off the roof to the dismay of Nan who used some great four-letter words. Some of the best times of my life. Rest in peace dear cousin and my condolences to Aunt Cookie, Joy, Brett, Jed and their families.

I was devastated to hear the news of my cousin Eric passing last week. Although I live in Arizona, and Eric lived in NY he always had a special place in my heart. He was like a big brother to me growing up. Boy, did I admire his skills with his hands. Eric, to me could build or fix anything. (...and he did!) In fact, I can still remember how to make a minnow trap based on Eric's tutelage one day at the reservoir by my house in Brewster. Eric took an old two liter bottle of coke, cut the top part off and inverted it backwards into the bottom part of the bottle and stapled it back together. To this day I cannot tell you how many other folks I showed that minnow trap trick to! I also remember Eric's love of building and working on MOPAR hot rods in his parents garage in the Bronx. I would often peak into the garage when I was younger, and admire whatever muscle car Eric had put together, or was working on. I would ask him questions about the engines etc and where he would be racing them next. As you can quickly tell Eric was a pretty cool cousin to have growing up, and I am blessed to have had him in my life.
Rest in Peace Eric.
My love goes out to Aunt Cook, Joy, Jed and Brett at this most difficult time. You are all in my prayers.
